This past Saturday (2024/09/28), over 30 dedicated volunteers from the Nan, Inc. ‘Ohana rolled up their sleeves to team up with the Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) Environmental Division for a vital cleanup of the Mokapu Drainage Canal. This crucial waterway not only acts as a wildlife habitat but also plays a key role in flood mitigation for the installation and nearby communities. By channeling stormwater away from the base, the canal helps prevent flooding, making it essential for both environmental health and community safety.
During the cleanup, volunteers removed debris and litter that threatened the canal’s ecosystem, ensuring that it remains clear and functional. The efforts of our volunteers are a testament to our commitment to preserving our natural surroundings and supporting the local environment.
We’re proud of our ‘Ohana for making a tangible difference in our community, one cleanup at a time! We can’t wait for our next volunteer event, where we’ll be supporting the Heʻeia Fishpond Community. Let’s keep the momentum going!
