Hawaii County Building Renovation Phase II, Island of Hawaii, Hawaii
- Client: County of Hawaii
- Contract Amount: $22,178,000
This project included extensive renovations to the Hawaii County Building, a two-story, 45,000 square foot facility, which houses the Mayor’s and the County Council member’s offices, as well as the Finance Department, Police Commission, and Council Chambers in the Hilo Bayfront. Although much of the original design aspects of the county building were preserved, much of the project was dedicated to seismic upgrades and hurricane resistance, as well as various systems to lower energy costs. The energy savings following the renovation was designed to be approximately 35%, which was partially due to new air conditioning systems and a 100 kW photovoltaic system on the roof.
In addition to receiving a Letter of Appreciation from the Hawaii County Mayor for the company’s “outstanding work”, this project also earned an Award of Excellence in the 2010 GCA Build Hawaii Awards.
