This design-build project constructed a Joint Military Center in the Keaukaha Military Reservation in Hilo that serves as a major training center for both the Hawaii Army National Guard and the United States Army Reserve. Placed within the 19-acre project site, the six building complex, totaling approximately 106,000 square feet, consisted of a Lobby Building (which includes family support, recruiting, and the Hawaii Office of Veterans Services), Assembly Hall, Administration/Unit Storage Building, Classroom Building, Vehicle Maintenance Facility, and a State Maintenance Facility. Highlights of the project included various command offices and arms storage, a Training Device/Simulation Center, and an overhead bridge crane to aid in the maintenance of heavy equipment and a fleet of Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTT). Other amenities included a basketball court within the Assembly Hall, a fitness room with exercise equipment, and a barbecue pavilion. The project was constructed with sustainable practices and attained a LEED Silver rating by the US Green Building Council.
