With the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center being the largest provider of primary healthcare to the Waianae coast region, this project facilitated its long awaited expansion with a new three-story medical building designed to accommodate its pediatrics and women’s health practices, as well as its medical training facilities. Consistent with the Center’s goal to create an overall atmosphere of well-being and natural healing, each floor of the new building is designed around a Native Hawaiian medicinal plant; the Ti, the Kukui Leaf and Nut, and the Kalo. Together with the existing facilities, the Center embodies the harmony between the modern, western, and native Hawaiian medical practices. In addition to its medical function, the 22,000 square foot building was also equipped with an emergency generator and will serve as refuge for the Waianae coastline community in the event of a natural disaster.

The success of this project resulted in a Letter of Appreciation from both the Chief Executive Officer and Assistant Director of the facility.
